If you are planning a cruise vacation, the Mediterranean is an ideal destination.  The climate is perfect and there are some stunning locations to visit. The Mediterranean Sea is a large body of water that is west of Asia, north of Africa, and south of Europe that major cruise ships have been visiting since the creation of cruise vacations. The Mediterranean is one of Europe’s most popular destinations because of the hot, dry summers and the mild, rainy winters.

A Mediterranean cruise is a fun, action packed and perfect way to explore this region.  Following are the must see ports that most Mediterranean cruises call at:

Palma – This is a port that’s located on Majorca, the beautiful Spanish island. Majorca is a popular departure point for many European cruises.  It is one of the Balearic Islands and a very popular destination for tourists and European travelers. The port is located on the island’s south side, but exploration is easy via public transport or bus.

Barcelona – Barcelona is Spain’s largest city and the capital of Catalonia.  Because Barcelona is located on the mainland, the weather is a bit warmer than that of the Spanish islands.  The city is very busy, but still offers a relaxed atmosphere.  There are stunning palm lined beached to enjoy as well as shopping, a busy town center, cozy bars, and coffee shops.

Tunis – Tunis is a city that’s located in Tunisia at offers an experience that’s entirely different than all the other Mediterranean cruise destinations. Because this is an Arabic country, it’s a good idea to research the beliefs before you arrive at port.  When a shore excursion is enjoyed, an old world city is revealed that features a typical African appearance.  The climate is hot and dry so be sure you choose appropriate attire.  You will also want to brush up on your haggling skills because everything that’s available for purchase can be bartered.

Genoa – Genoa is a stunning city that’s located in Italy and has a very traditional appearance. Some areas of the old town have been added to the world heritage list and remain untouched by modern architecture.

Rome – When you take a Mediterranean cruise, you must visit Rome.  You have to see the city with your own two eyes to believe it.  Some of the world’s most famous architecture and monuments are housed in Rome.  Rome is the larges city in Italy and the capital.

This list is by no means complete. There are many more locations that every traveler should visit while vacationing on a Mediterranean cruise.
